“Mold Removal” vs. Mold Remediation

What’s the Difference?

Have you ever walked into your home and noticed a discoloration on your ceilings or walls or even on your belongings?  If you have and in most cases most people will encounter this at one point and time in their life, it will more than likely be seen as mold.

Mold spores which are invisible to the human eye are present in every environment you find yourself in daily. The deciding factor on knowing the extent is if those spores are at an acceptable level or not.

With all the health concerns related to mold exposure people are more than ever conscious of their surroundings and how it affects them and their families.

You have a couple of options, 1. Removing mold or 2. Mold remediation.  The difference is quite simple and easy to understand when explained.  Mold Removal is the removal of actual mold from the surface, but not removing the material.  Mold Remediation involves removing contaminated building materials and mold altogether.

Complete mold removal is impossible but often the route people will choose to take.  On the other hand, you have the option of hiring a certified company that specifically deals with mold remediation.  Mold remediation not only involves removing materials but also provide air filtration units that can scrub and clean the environment so that the mold spore count is at a safe level for you and your family and give you peace of mind knowing your home is safe.

Understanding Mold

When water intrudes into your property, mold growth can start in as little as 48 hours. Consider the following mold facts:

  • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
  • Mold spores are microscopic, float along in the air, and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
  • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
  • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
  • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor, and that odor can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
  • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.
